Reviews
Tomlinson's latest book is a superb synthesis of biological evolution and culture to offer new perspectives on human evolution. Semiotics plays a major role in his views, similar to Deacon's "The Symbolic Species". His distinction between information and sign is especially central to the ideas presented later in the book. Not everyone will agree with him on these definitions and views, however, Tomlinson always acknowledges alternative conjectures with up to date references. The book is rather short and concise, though well-written and dense in terms of information and big ideas.
