Iron Maiden: '80 '81 Details

Review "Great book, and for once, everything I said has been printed and not changed like many books I have done in the past." --Dennis Stratton, Iron Maiden guitarist (1979-1980)"As a fan of the early Iron Maiden albums, this book really peaked my interest as a look behind the formative years and foundation of such an influential band. I think both fans and musicians can gain invaluable insight on the challenges bands go through finding that special 'something' that launches them to super stardom." --David Ellefson, Megadeth bassist"Every Iron Maiden fan should read this book. You will have a new appreciation for the genius that is the first two Iron Maiden albums. I was also totally blown away by the discovery within this book that Lemmy Kilmister taught Sid Vicious how to play bass, WOW! Such great tales will entertain every metalhead who reads this great book! Happy reading!" --Richard Christy, Howard Stern Show Writer/Producer"Being a big fan of the Paul Di'Anno era, it was great to read about it first hand from Di'Anno and Dennis Stratton, and so many others that were involved, knew, or were fans back then. They were a very original entity at that point. Coming from a punk rock background, they were the complete package - amazing songs, attitude, the Eddie mascot, and two of the best records to come out of that era. Greg Prato always paints the perfect picture of the timeline and gets it right every time. If you're a fan of that era or a Maiden fan in general, this is a MUST!!!'' --Keith Roth, Ozzy's Boneyard"A new book by noted author Greg Prato chronicles Maiden's Di'Anno years in Iron Maiden '80-'81, an oral history of the period composed through tons of insightful interviews with producers, band members - including a very candid and forthright Di'Anno - and other metal musicians. In some ways, it's also a history of NWOBHM, with a detailed look at the making of those first two Maiden albums and insider perspectives on why this lineup didn't last." --Peter Lindblad, Backstage Auctions"Here, in another one of music journalist Greg Prato's superbly researched books, the Di'Anno years are dissected and examined through a series of wonderfully constructed interviews...You will read this one front to back in just a couple sittings. A very revealing tale." --Steven Rosen, Curled Up"This is a great addition to the library of any Iron Maiden fan." --Metal Rules Read more About the Author Greg Prato is a Long Island, New York-based journalist, who has written for Rolling Stone, and has authored such books as 'MTV Ruled the World: The Early Years of Music Video,' 'Overlooked/Underappreciated: 354 Recordings That Demand Your Attention,' 'Grunge is Dead: The Oral History of Seattle Rock Music,' and 'The Eric Carr Story.' Iron Maiden: '80 '81 covers the Paul Di' Anno era of the band through interviews with a variety of musicians and associated personalities.I've always preferred Paul Di' Anno to Bruce Dickinson and consider Iron Maiden's first two studio albums their best, so it's nice to hear feedback from professional musicians that mirror some of my long held opinions. Not all of the commentary is positive and some of the statements come off as sour grapes, particularly those made by Anvil's singer/guitarist Lips and Raven's John Gallagher who seem jealous of Iron Maiden's relative success. Other commentary by Dave Lombardo, Scott Ian, Pete Way, Charlie Benante, Mike Portnoy etc., reinforces the importance, influence and greatness of early Iron Maiden and acknowledges the talent of the band's various members. My criticisms are minor. Iron Maiden: '80 '81 is organised strangely with the interview question worked into the answer and it's too bad the author couldn't get Steve Harris and Bruce Dickinson to participate in the Q & A.Iron Maiden: '80 '81 is a must have for Di' Anno era fans of the band.
